Self Learned Computer related subjects out of curiosity This is how I learned computer related subjects: During 1997 - 98, when I joined Trivitron Medical Systems, Chennai, they were just setting up their office at Sapthagiri Bavan, in Karpagambal Nagar, Near Luz Corner, owned by Ramachandra Medical College group. There were less than 10 employees in total and I was assigned a job to identify medical products for imports. Mrs. Latha, who was the typist and PA to all the sales/product managers, she was also supporting me in typing letters using a Pentium 486 version computer. As she was 7 - 8 months pregnant, she was mostly sleeping during the work hours. For my luck, a service engineer named Vijayaragavan, who had done his Bio-Medical Engineering from Shanmuga Engineering college, joined Trivitron as trainee engineer and was helping me in using that computer. Latha and Vijayaragavan, both remotely sitting from the only computer available at the office, helped me to learn basics on how to handle a mouse and keyboard. During that time - the words like 'undo - redo' was thrilling me! Both of them also helped me to learn about using Windows Office! After leaving Trivitron, the relationship between me and the computer was broken and so many things happened in my life as well as in the world of computers. It was in 2001, when I joined Bharat Serums and Vaccines, my relationship with computers restarted - while I became regional manger - sales, handling south India, computer has grown as P 3 version and had color monitor too! Products that I promoted for Bharat Serums were of concept selling and hence labs/diagnostic centers were demanding me for lot of research evidences. As the product manager of the company does not have the required papers, I collected lots of articles on those subjects. Taking printouts and circulating to doctors, labs and my colleagues were too expensive and hence I approached the help of a browsing center man. It was Mr. Muthu of Ibiz Browsing center (at present he owns a cement and iron selling shop named Sri Baghavathi Amman Traders, opp. Parimalam Hr Sec School (New Campus), Hosur) which was located opposite to Sub-Jail on Railway Station Road, Hosur, who pointed me to Geocities.Com and Tripod.Com. I started posting all the collected materials in a site at geocities.com, and people started appreciating me for my web technology skills!!! As my interest towards internet grew, I approached Mr. Gunaseelan of I Will Software, to teach me JavaScript and ASP. Only there I got the idea of launching a website for Hosur and the name we booked includes, hosur.net, hosurinfo.com and hosuronline.com - we decided to choose hosuronline.com, as the name was similar to ChennaiOnline.Com! Even though I booked the domain names by August, 'I Will' failed to design a website till November 2002 and hence with the help of FrontPage, I made the website on my own with the help of Mr. Newman of JN Systems. The website started running. A demand for posting jobs, running a matrimonial site arise and I chose classical ASP as the programming language. Again to say its my luck, when I was searching for books at Sapna Books Stall, Bangalore, I found few CDs labeled as ASP tutors. In the CD I got the address of Mr. Nataraj, Raksha Infotech, Bangalore and reached him. He gave me guidance and moral support in developing a dynamic website and the quality of HosurOnline.Com started growing up with the help and support of its viewers, as many viewers shared their comments about the website with me. This is the story, on how a computer illiterate was able to own a website like HosurOnline.Com!!! |
