The Northern Malabar
Region of Kerala State was comparatively less developed and
lacked advanced medical facilities even though Kerala take the
prime place in Indian health care. People of this area depended
on the hospitals at Manipal, Madras, Vellore etc. in neighboring
states, which are very expensive, inconvenient and opened to
many types of exploitation. As a permanent solution to this a
Co-operative Society named Kerala State Co-operative Hospital
Complex was formed and registered under Co-operative Societies
Act, by including eminent personalities from different walks of
life in this region. This society aimed at providing advanced
medical facilities in this area and to create one Iinstitution
of Excellence for people,with facilities for education, training
and research. This Institution is designed on the scale and
dimensions of a National Institute like All India Institute of
Medical Sciences.
