Every week, atleast 50 trucks found sand smuggling, its drivers and assistants were taken into custody on charges of sand smuggling, but the menace seems to have no end.
From Namakkal, Karur and Trichy area, sand smugglers bring sand to Hosur with a motive of smuggling the same to Karnataka, which, the government of Tamil Nadu try its best to block.
Officials of Police, PWD and Revenue, work round the clock to control the menace but using the holes in law, the accused criminals escape from the clutches of law in no time.
Criminals pay Rs 35000 and odd to the court as penalty and take back the truck. Even Goondas Act is not being slapped on the actual accused as these quick rich criminals pay salary to regular petty criminals to stay in prison, while these accused indulge in social crime.
Today morning, officals seized about 27 trucks, 91 units of sand and 4 cars which the smugglers used to smuggle sand. 14 men were arrested, while several ran in hide.
Public want a stringent law against these social criminals with punishment of atleast 5 years in prison with no bail, completely taking the truck and leaving it for auction, removing voting rights for such crimes etc.,
