After successfully managing FREE rice through PDS, making Tamil Nadu almost electricity crisis free, providing food in budget through Amma Canteens, Jaya – CM of TN launched yesterday, Amma Thanneer, which will cost almost Rs 10 less comparing to commercially available bottled drinking water in the state.
After the successful launch of Amma canteens, where food is being served at subsidised rates, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday inaugurated the “Amma Mineral Water” scheme to commemorate the 105th birthday of former chief minister Annadurai.
At a function held at the State Secretariat, Jayalalitha launched the mineral water scheme and also inaugurated the water production unit set up by the Transport Department at suburban Gummidipoondi through video-conferencing.
Under the Amma Mineral Water scheme, quality and affordable drinking water will be provided to the poor and middle-class people at Rs 10 a bottle.
An official release said that Amma Mineral Water would be sold in long-distance government buses, all bus termini in Chennai and bus stands in all districts across the state.
The one-litre water bottle will be sold at Rs 10 as against Rs 15 by the Railways and Rs 20-25 by private players.
