Due to peak summer and scarcity of water and food in forests, elephants are migrating towards human habitats, causing havoc in and around Hosur.
During December last year, a group of 30 elephants moved out from Bannargatta forest area towards Kolar. They crossed over NH 7 near Soolagiri.
From Kolar forest area, the group has split into three. Two groups have 13 elephants each and they are stationed at Bangarpet near Kolar and Maharajakadai near Krishnagiri respectively. One more group having 4 elephants is roaming around and recently visited Hosur town. Now this group has been let into Javalagiri forest.
Now, the group from Maharajakadai is returning back to Bannargatta forest and they are taking the same route via Soolagiri.
Forest officials are (said to be) working day and night in monitoring the movement of the groups and chasing them on their route and avoiding their entry into village areas.
