It is illegal to transport people in commercial vehicles that were licensed to carry goods. But villagers keep a deaf ear on official advice and they always prefer to travel in them in large bunches.
Several accidents involving such vehicles carrying humans have killed several people, still the practice continues in and around Hosur.
Around 30 people belonging to Marandapalli village near Soolagiri decided to attend a temple festival in Kaveri Pattinam and travelled in a Tata Ace van. Of the 30, 4 were small children while 15 were women.
Cheenivachan (23) of the same village drive the vehicle. While returning back, the driver lost his control over the vehicle and the van capsized.
It is said that when the van was crossing Chinnaar area near Soolagiri, a cattle crossed the road unexpectedly, on which the driver lost the control.
In this the driver along with 29 others were injured. 8 of them were critically injured.
Soolagiri police registered a case and sent the injured to Krishnagiri GH.
