A Bench of Justices B.S. Chauhan and S.A. Bobde today declared that Tamil Nadu government and its officials have no rights in managing Chidambaram Natarajar Temple.

The executive official, appointed by the government shall only interfere when any irregularity occurs in the temple.

Couple of years ago, Tamil Nadu government appointed an executive official to manage the temple’s activities. High Court of Chennai confirmed the government order against which the Deekshidars approached the supreme court.

Subramaniya Swamy argued in favour of Deekshidars, while Podu Deekshidars were represented by Venkatramani and Colin Gonsalves represented V Arumugam – both contended against Deekshidars
