Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor will start as the favourite in the 10th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the picturesque Clover Greens Golf Course in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, starting on Wednesday.
Vani, who finished third with a total of 219 in the Mineks & Regnum Ladies Classic last week, is keen to carry on that momentum this week. The Indian signed off behind eventual winner Emma Westin (215) and second-placed Lina Boqvist (217) of Sweden.
The youngster, who currently leads the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of Rs 9,55,000 from nine appearances (five victories and three seconds), will also look to consolidate her position atop the money list.
She will, however, face stiff competition from Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra and Neha Tripathi.
Smriti, currently fifth in the merit list, will be eager to make a comeback after missing the last two legs on the tour.
The seasoned pro will be playing on the tour after a gap of two months.
Meanwhile Neha, who had edged past Vani in the ninth leg to finish as the best pro, would look forward to a repeat performance in the 10th leg this week.
Neha is currently second in the merit list with total earnings of Rs 6,04,000 from eight appearances.
Among others to watch out this week are Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana, Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma, Pune golfer Shweta Galande along with amateurs Anisha Padukone from Bengaluru and Delhi’s Gauri Monga.
Hero MotoCorp-sponsored Bengaluru golfer Sharmila Nicollet will miss the action this week as she is nursing an injury.
The 10th leg of the tour will showcase a field of 11 golfers, that include nine pros and two amateurs from across the country.
