Hosur’s forests – spread across 1492 sq. km and part of the mighty Western Ghats – are home to many rare species, including Tamil Nadu’s state bird, the Emerald Dove (Maragatha Puraa). 🌳

But these rare green doves and pigeons are now being hunted cruelly, sold in butcher shops, and even burned as meat. 😢

⚠️ Wildlife volunteers are urging the government to take immediate action and protect these endangered birds. Awareness among schools & colleges is also a must to save Hosur’s natural heritage.

ஓசூரின் அடையாளமான அரிய வகை பச்சை புறாக்கள், வேட்டையாடப்படும் கொடூரம்! ஓசூர் வனப்பகுதி சுமார் 1492 சதுர கிலோமீட்டர் பரப்பளவு கொண்டது. மேற்கு தொடர்ச்சி மலையின் தொடராக கருதப்படும் ஓசூர் மலை தொடர்கள், ஏராளமான அரிய வகை உயிரினங்களுக்கு தன்னகத்தில் வாழ்விடமாக வழங்கி வருகிறது.

தமிழ்நாட்டின் மாநில பறவையான அரிய வகை மரகதப்புறா மற்றும் பச்சை புறாக்கள் ஏராளமானவை ஓசூர் மற்றும் அதன் சுற்றுவட்டார பகுதிகளில் காணப்படுகின்றன.

இந்நிலையில் இத்தகைய புறாக்கள், கசாப்பு கடைகளில், வெட்டி கரியாக்கி விற்கப்படுவதாக தன்னார்வலர்கள் வேதனை தெரிவிக்கின்றனர். அரசு இது தொடர்பில் உடனடி கவனம் செலுத்தி, அரிய வகை பறவை இனங்கள் வேட்டையாடப்படுவதை தடுப்பதோடு, பள்ளி கல்லூரி மாணாக்கர்கள் இடையே விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும் என தன்னார்வலர்கள் கோரிக்கை விடுக்கின்றனர்.
