Tension prevailed near Mathigiri Police Station after 36-year-old Babu, who is stated to be linked to several criminal cases, was brought in for questioning on Saturday morning.

His wife, two women relatives and his brother staged a protest outside the police station, while supporters gathered in large numbers. The supporters alleged that Babu had reformed and accused the police of attempting to foist a false case. Police, however, stated that he was called for inquiry over alleged recent activities that caused public nuisance and intimidation.
