ஓசூர் சுற்றுவட்டார பகுதிகளில் வனவிலங்குகளிடமிருந்து தங்கள் விளை பொருட்களை பாதுகாக்க மரங்களின் மீது கூடாரம் கட்டி, கடும் குளிரில் நடுங்கியபடியே வாழும் மக்கள். ஓசூர் சுற்றுவட்டார பகுதிகளில் ஏராளமான காடுகளும் அதில் வாழும் விலங்குகளும் உள்ளன. காடுகளில் போதுமான அளவு உணவு இருந்தாலும், விளை பொருட்களை ருசிக்க அவை என்றென்றும் ஆவல் கொண்டுள்ளன. இதனால் இரவு நேரங்களில் காட்டுக்குள் இருந்து வெளியேறி விளை நிலங்களுக்குள் புகுந்து, அறுவடைக்கு காத்திருக்கும் விளை பொருட்களை ருசிப்பதோடு, கால்களால் மிதித்து சேதப்படுத்தி செல்கின்றன. தங்களது விளை நிலங்களை, யானை, மான், காட்டுப் பன்றி, மயில், குரங்கு ஆகியவற்றிடம் இருந்து பாதுகாக்க, இரவில் இப்படி கூடாரங்களில் தங்கிப் பணி புரிகிறார்கள்.
