குறிஞ்சி நிலம் சூழ்ந்த ஓசூர் மலைகளும் காடுகளும் — யானைகளின் இயற்கை குடியிருப்பு.

ஆந்திரா, கர்நாடகா, தமிழ்நாடு — மூன்று மாநில காடுகள் சந்திக்கும் நடு பகுதி ஓசூர். அதனால், யானைகளின் ஆயிரம் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் பழமையான வழித்தடத்தின் ஆணி வேர்தான் ஓசூர்.

இரண்டாயிரத்து இருபத்தி நான்கு, இருபத்தைந்து கணக்கெடுப்பின்படி, சுமார் நூற்றி ஐம்பது யானைகள் ஓசூர் காடுகளில் வாழ்கின்றன. கூட்டம் கூட்டமாக குளங்களில் குளித்து விளையாடும் காட்சி நம்மை கவர்ந்தாலும், அவை உணவு தேடி நம் வீடு அருகே வந்தால், பலர் யானைகளை எதிரியாகக் கருதி, அவற்றிற்கு எதிராக வன்முறையில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர் .

யானைகள் தான் ஓசூரின் அடையாளம். அவற்றின் வாழ்விடத்தை பாதுகாக்க, யானை, மனிதர் மோதலைத் தவிர்க்க, யானைகளுக்கான இடம் முழுமையாக உறுதி செய்யப்பட வேண்டும்.
