Hosur is very well known for cultivation of Tomatoes, both country variety and hybrid. Hosur farmers produce not only Tomatoes, but also Ragi, Cauliflowers, Cabbage, Carrot, Moch-chai (Field Beans), Guava, Coconuts and other commercial crops.
Farmers of Linga-theerana-palli village near Hosur, produce Tomatoes in this season. Chandrappa, a farmer of the village have plucked about 80 crates of tomatoes, each crate weighing 25 kgs, from the field and have stored in a shed near the field.
10 elephants came from forest area to the village on the event day, and smashed the tomatoes belonging to Chandrappa. On their way, they pulled down 4 coconut trees belonging to a farmer named Sarath. He also found his tomato field dozed by the elephants. They rampaged on a acre field of well grown tomato field belonging to Pasupathi. They also damaged tomato crops belonging to Ravi. According to Ravi, he has lost about a acre crop due to elephants grazing in his field.
As the elephant attack has happened during night hours, villagers found the damage only on next day morning. They are now demanding compensation from the government for their lost crop.
